Virgin with child
  Anonymous - Burgundy
Origin from the area of Nolay
12th century
Wood, formerly polychromed
H 62.5 X W 31 X L 24.5 cm

Beaune, Museum of Fine Arts.

This very beautiful piece is typical of the Roman production borrowed from an entirely "Byzantine" hierarchy of its figures of Virgins in majesty. There is a picture at the Museum of Fine Arts representing Charles Aubertin, the first curator of the Beaune museum, in his office, in which appears this Virgin with child.
